MANKATO Mankato resident Clayton S. Hanson 54, died Monday, Nov. 13 at Immanuel St.,Joseph's Hospital. Services are 11 a.m.Thursday at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Mankato, the Rev. Steven Berkeland officiating. Burial with military honors is in Glenwood Cemetery, Mankato.
Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Mankato Mortuary and continues one hour before services Thursday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to LEEP, Ronald McDonald House, Immanuel St. Josephs’s Hospital or donor’s choice.
Mr. Hanson was born March 17, 1946 to Orris and Aline (Johnson) Hanson at Owatonna. He graduated from Mankato High School in 1964 and attended Bethany College. He later graduated from Mankato Vocational College. He had served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, earning Purple Heart and married Linda Kiergaard Nov.28, 1970 at Morgan He was employed by Blue Earth county as a computer programmer analyst for 25 years and was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church, VFW Post 950, American Legion Post 11, DAV and VVSM. He started the Mankato Special Olympic softball team ad was Santa Claus in the Mankato Community for many years. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing and camping.
Mr. Hanson is survived by his wife, one daughter Kathryn and her fiancé Thor Topp, of Bloomington; one son, Eric 0of Mankato; one granddaughter; two sisters and their husbands, Audrey Marion and Chuck of Stillwater and Sonja Wenger and Jerry of Powell, Wyo.; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, including one infant twin.
